Terbinafine is an antifungal agent used to treat fungal infections of the skin and nails. It prevents the formation of substances needed by the fungus to grow and develop, which causes weakness and death of the fungus.
You should not use Terbinafine in case you are allergic to any ingredient in it. In such case it is obligatory to consult with your doctor or health care provider before taking this drug.
Before using Terbinafine
Before using Terbinafine you should tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions listed below: you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding a baby; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; you have liver disease, kidney disease, or lupus, or you have a history of alcohol abuse.
Be aware that Terbinafine may interact with some medicines. Consult with your health care provider in case you are taking any other drugs, especially any of the following: cimetidine because it may increase the risk of side effects from Terbinafine; rifampin because it may decrease the effectiveness of Terbinafine; antiarrhythmics (eg, flecainide, propafenone), beta-blockers (eg, metoprolol), monoamine oxidase (MAO) type B inhibitors (eg, selegiline), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (eg, fluoxetine), or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline) because their actions and side effects may be increased by Terbinafine; anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) because their effectiveness may be affected by Terbinafine.
It may not be a complete list of all interactions with other drugs. To prevent any complications you should check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.
