Information about Flomax

Tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker that used for treatment of enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia; BPH). It relaxes muscles in the prostate and bladder, which helps to improve urine flow and reduce symptoms of BPH. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your physician.

You should not use Tamsulosin in case you have any condition mentioned below: you are allergic to any ingredient in Tamsulosin; you are taking another alpha-blocker (eg, prazosin).

Before using Tamsulosin

Before using Tamsulosin you should tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions listed below: you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding a baby; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; you have allergies to medicines or other substances; you have had a severe allergic reaction (eg, severe rash, hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness) to any sulfonamide (sulfa) medicine, such as acetazolamide, celecoxib, certain diuretics (eg, hydrochlorothiazide), sulfonylureas (eg, glyburide), probenecid, sulfamethoxazole, valdecoxib, or zonisamide; you have a history of high blood pressure or prostate cancer; you will be having eye surgery.

Be aware that Tamsulosin may interact with some medicines. Consult with your health care provider in case you are taking any other drugs, especially any of the following: alpha-blockers (eg, prazosin) or phosphodiesterase inhibitors (eg, sildenafil) because symptoms of low blood pressure (eg, severe dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting) may occur; zole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole), cimetidine, or serotonin specific reuptake inhibitors (eg, fluoxetine) because they may increase the risk of Tamsulosin 's side effects; warfarin because the risk of side effects may be increased.

How to use Tamsulosin

You should use Tamsulosin as recommended by your doctor. Tamsulosin is taken orally 30 minutes after eating the same meal each day. You should swallow Tamsulosin whole without breaking, crushing, chewing, or opening capsules before swallowing.

In case you miss a dose of Tamsulosin, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next intake, skip the missed dose and take it according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take double doses at once. In case you miss more than 2 dose of Tamsulosin, consult with your doctor.

Important safety information

Tamsulosin usage may lead to drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, lightheadedness, or fainting. These effects may be worsened by taking alcohol or certain medicines. Prevent driving or performing any other possibly unsafe actions while taking Tamsulosin.
