Doxazosin is in the class of alpha-blockers. It effects by relaxing muscles in the blood vessels that results in lowering of blood pressure. In BPH, alpha-blockers effects by relaxing muscles around the urethra (the tube that drains urine from the bladder), which results in improving of urinary symptoms.
You should not use Doxazosin in case you are allergic to any ingredient in it or to similar medicines (eg, prazosin).

Before using Doxazosin
Be aware that Doxazosin may interact with some medical conditions. How to use Doxazosin
Take Doxazosin according to the prescription of your doctor. Doxazosin is to be taken orally with or without food. A sudden drop in blood pressure after the very first dose may be caused by Doxazosin. Take the first dose before going to bed. If you get up during the night, sit up slowly, then stand slowly. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications (any herbal preparations or dietary supplements) without medical consultation.
You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember and then follow your usual schedule. Nevertheless, if it is near to the time for your next dose, do not take an extra tablet to catch up for the dose you forgot. Wait and take your next tablet at the regular time. Do not take a double dose.
Important safety information
Doxazosin may cause dizziness or drowsiness, lightheadedness, so be careful when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. You should avoid such activities if you experience dizziness or drowsiness, lightheadedness. Sit up or stand slowly. Sit or lie down in case you experience these. Avoid situations where fainting could cause injury. Contact your doctor if you faint. Alcohol may increase such symptoms. Avoid taking alcohol and other medicines.
Exercise and stay out in hot weather carefully.
Seek immediate medical attention if a man suffers from a painful penis erection, sustained for hours and unrelieved by sexual intercourse or masturbation to avoid possible permanent impotence.
You may feel tired or run down for a few weeks after the treatment is started if you take medicine for high blood pressure. Continue taking your medicine even if no symptoms bother you. Consult with your doctor if you suffer any symptom.
LAB TESTS, including blood pressure monitoring, may be performed to monitor your progress.
Do not use Doxazosin in CHILDREN; there is no reliable data about safety and effectiveness in children.
PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING
Consult with your doctor if you plan to become pregnant, as the benefits and risks of using Doxazosin during while you are pregnant are not known. There is no reliable data whether Doxazosin passes into breast milk. You are not recommended to breast-feed when being treated with Doxazosin.
Possible side effects of Doxazosin
